Presentation of the Library

The Karikó János Library can be found at 3 Szabadság Street, Biatorbágy. It was named after the popular poet of Biatorbágy, János Karikó. In 2008 we celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The book stock of the Library attends to the needs of both children and adults. It is continuously increasing, which means 700-800 new books a year, on average. There are 27 thousand volumes on the open shelves. Newly published, as well as old editions, can be taken out or read in the library.

The collection is accreted and made up in terms of the general public library. The Library lays special emphasis on the stock of reference books, and the expansion of the regional history collection. It aims to serve as the ”study” of the town, where readers can get immediate answers to their questions from reference books and papers. One can search, browse, study, and read to their liking.

There is a comfortable and cosy reading room with many magazines, journals, newspapers, and daily papers for this purpose.

Since January 2009, our registered readers can use the Internet for free, and also take out journals. Books not found in the library are requested by interlibrary loan on payment of a fee. To meet the requests of our readers, we have purchased some audio books, that can be chosen from a list.

3 books per person can be taken out for three-weeks. 5 journals per person can be taken out for one week. An extension of time may be requested in person, over the phone, or by email. After the date of expiry, a fine is charged. Accurate information on these can be read in the Library Regulations on the website.

Reading for free is assured for all Hungarian citizens. Those without income, may take out if guaranteed by a parent.

The administration of Karikó János Library includes some free time activities regarding reading for all age-groups. Adults may attend meetings between authors and readers, and book presentations. For the benefit of primary school students, the library gives lessons on its use and regulations.
